The 1984 World’s Fair provided two gifts for the City of New Orleans – the genesis of what would become the premier convention center in the hemisphere and the revitalization of the Warehouse District. The exposure the city received sparked the interest of developers. They saw these old mills and warehouses as an opportunity to build a new neighborhood. The old coffee warehouse, the casket company, the cotton mill, the fibre mill and many others were purchased and turned into condominiums. Restaurateurs jumped on the opportunity to build where they would serve both the residents of this upscale neighborhood and people from conventions. Nightclubs followed along with other retail businesses. For some reason the area became a choice location for law offices. The Warehouse district has been at the front of property appreciation in the City.
